Package tour offers economical protection

A package tour is usually a combination of travel services bought as a package, for example flight & hotel or hotel & service, such as a formula ticket, diving course or car hire. Package tour can also be tailored according to the traveller's wishes.

A package tour is usually paid for in advance and organised by a responsible tour operator. A package tour will always include at least the travel and accommodation, or one of these together with some other significant travel service.

The travel agency must tell the traveller if this is a package tour. If it is a package tour it must be also mentioned in the booking confirmation.

How to recognise a reliable package tour

  • The tour operator is in the Consumer Agency's package travel register.
  • The tour operator has a valid insurance which guarantees that you will get a refund for the holiday you have paid if the tour operator goes bankrupt.
  • The tour operator's certificate of registration is displayed in the travel agency and the registration number is mentioned in advertisements.
  • Before you sign the contract you are told who is responsible for organising the holiday.

Traveller's legal rights and rights within general package tour terms and conditions and in specialist travel terms and conditions

See pages on "Package Travel" where you can find information about traveller's rights in common problem situations connected to package travel. Traveller's rights on a package tour are based on the Package Travel Act.

The Consumer Agency and the Association of Finnish Travel Agents have agreed on general package tour terms and conditions which apply to trips longer than 2 days and nights. The general package tour terms and conditions include cancellation rights, payments and compensation issues.

The tour operator can use other than the general package tour terms and conditions in special situations. These special terms and conditions must not be in conflict with the Package Tour Act.

In case problematic situations occur, it is advisable to familiarise yourself with the holiday terms and conditions before travelling.
