Scams

Silence won't help – tell us about scams!

Information from consumers is valuable: the more information authorities receive about different scam methods, and the more quickly they receive it, the better chance they have to intervene.

Network to combat fraud

The network to combat fraud encourages consumers to share information about suspicious cases as quickly as possible. There's no need to be ashamed of having been cheated.

You can contact the authorities about suspicious marketing

  • Consumer advisers: If you want to demand a refund or compensation for a product or service you have purchased, contact the consumer adviser.
  • European Consumer Centre: If you purchased a product from another EU country, or from an online store in the EU area, and have a refund or other compensation claim against the seller or service provider.
  • Consumer Agency: You can report misleading or fraudulent marketing to the Consumer Agency. You may not get your money back, but you can help put a stop to the illegal activity and prevent others from falling victim to the same scam.

You can also submit a report to the database at www.econsumer.gov. The database is used by government enforcement agencies in 19 different countries to obtain information about cross-border electronic fraud attempts, types of fraud, and the most frequent causes of complaints, making quick intervention possible. The website is maintained by the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN), in which Finland is represented by the Consumer Agency/Ombudsman.
