Housing

Moving checklist

  • Submit notification of the move no later than one week after moving. The notification of moving can be made, at the earliest, one month before the date of moving.
  • Route your mail to your new address and submit notification of your new address to any companies which mail you bills. Many large corporations update their customers' addresses based on the population register. Nevertheless, you have an obligation to ensure that bills get routed to the correct address and paid on time.
  • Arrange for transportation and help early enough. Moving companies tend to have peaks in demand during weekends and the turn of the month.
  • Also notify the house manager of your move.
  • Make arrangements with your Internet Service Provider well before moving to avoid disruptions to your Internet service.
  • Make a new electricity contract when you terminate the previous one. Remember to get competing offers from different electricity providers!
  • If you are moving to a single-family house, make sure you enter into other necessary contracts, e.g. for water supply and waste disposal. If the house uses oil heating, check that there is enough oil. If the house uses electrical heating, make sure to get competing offers for your new electricity contract.
  • If you have home insurance, check with your insurance company to find out whether it is sufficient for your new home.
