Consumer Agency

The Consumer Agency safeguards and strengthens the position of the consumer in society

The legal position of a consumer
We monitor several acts that were enacted to protect consumers. In addition, we can help consumers to protect their rights in special cases.

Package travel company guarantees
All package travel companies have to provide the Consumer Agency with a guarantee, which protects the payments made beforehand by consumers in case of bankruptcy or insolvency. Companies that organise or supply package travels must also register themselves in the register of package travel traders.

We operate nationally and internationally

We anticipate the changes and risks that may affect the consumer's position. We bring forth a consumer view in decision making and create initiatives to develop consumer protection and consumer policy.

We disseminate information to consumers and companies

We provide consumers with information to help their everyday choices. We also provide advice to companies about how to develop their business operations and customer service.

We guide the regional and local administration

We guide and train consumer legal advisors, State Provincial Offices and finance and debt counsellors.

We operate in three groups

The Consumer Agency has three groups: Consumer Law, Information and Services. In addition, the Consumer Agency handles the tasks of the European Consumer Centre. Director General Marita Wilska acts as the Consumer Ombudsman.
