Calling service numbers and corporate numbers is subject to additional charges

Service numbers

Service numbers are phone numbers with specific charges that are generally not included in call packages sold with telephone subscriptions. These include:
0600-0700 - Service numbers with specific charges and normal telephone charges levied on queuing time
0800 - toll-free numbers

Corporate telephone numbers

The national corporate numbers use the prefixes 0102-0109, 0201, 0203-0208, 029, 0301-0309, 075xy3-075xy9 and 076. The cost of calling these numbers is the same everywhere in the country. The cost of calling a corporate telephone number is determined by the rate charged by the telecommunications company providing the number and whether the call is made from a land line or mobile telephone. The cost is listed in the price catalogue of the telecommunications company providing the number and the summary table compiled by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (in Finnish only).

Calls to corporate telephone numbers are subject to special charges. They are generally not included in call packages sold with telephone subscriptions. Companies using corporate numbers must disclose the price of the call to callers.

Expenses of making complaints through corporate numbers must be reimbursed

According to the Consumer Protection Act, making a complaint cannot result in any charges to the consumer because the businesses are obligated to fix faulty products or services at their own expense. Using a corporate number for this purpose leads to a situation where the business has to separately reimburse the caller's telephone expenses if a free-of-charge complaint channel was not available and the grievance was justified.

The customer pays for queuing time when calling corporate numbers

Companies are permitted to charge callers for time spent in the queue. The cost of the queuing time does not need to be specifically disclosed at the beginning of the call, but in telephone services where customers are played a recorded message to notify them of being moved to the queue, the recording must also state the price charged for queuing time. Price information must also be displayed in advertising and other company materials.
