Consumer advisors give you guidance as well as help in mediating disputes.  Consumer advisory services are free of charge. You can contact the consumer advisor by phone or by appointment at their local offices. To facilitate the faster resolution of disputes, first try to negotiate with the seller.

Consumer advisors give guidance in Finnish and Swedish. Therefore persons wishing to consult an advisor in some other language must get an interpreter at their own expense.

Advisors are on call at the national phone number on weekdays from 09:00 to 15:00. Cost of the call: local network charge / mobile network charge.

The tasks consumer advisors

The consumer advisor

  • assists consumers and mediates disputes between consumers and businesses
  • provides consumers and businesses with information on consumer rights and responsibilities,
    including matters related to compensation for defects, agreements and making payments.
  • Housing matters: gives counsel on problems related to housing and real estate transactions

Consumer advisors do not handle

  • disputes between private individuals, such as selling/buying second-hand cars
  • disputes between businesses
  • disputes between a housing company and a tenant
  • transactions related to shares or other securities
  • matters related to national or municipal services
     

If disputes can't be resolved

If a dispute fails to get settled, you can take it to the Consumer Disputes Board.
