The indication of prices for vehicle inspections has been faulty. The price of services should be indicated in all marketing, but consumers visiting websites are often told to contact stations for rates. Vehicle inspection firms have been urged to correct the situation.
In the service field prices must be indicated for a service or product that is specified in all marketing, such as newspaper, magazine, TV, radio, Internet and direct marketing, since consumers should be able to compare prices before they make a decision. The total price must be given, including taxes and charges.
The way in which some vehicle inspection firms say that consumers using a particular medium must look elsewhere for price information is not acceptable. Nor is it permissible for firms to give rough estimates of costs: consumers must be given correct price information before they make a decision to book an inspection.
