Children and mobile phones

Children and payment via mobile phones

Mobile phones are an important element of daily life – also for children. Aside from making calls and sending text messages, a mobile phone can be used for surfing on the Internet, playing games, taking part in TV chats and votes, or for buying various products and services. In particular, logos, ring tones and various games that can be ordered by text messages are popular among children and young people.

All services are not necessarily suitable for children. It may also be difficult for children to understand the costs that accumulate from these services; costs that must be paid by the owner of the phone subscription, i.e. their parents.

Different technical tools have been developed to make the use of mobile phones safe and to anticipate costs. The information and advice compiled on these pages help parents guide their children in the use of fee-based mobile phone services.
